Hi there, I'm Jeanette! My name is Jeanette Shin, LCSW - I believe we are capable of healing ourselves and can develop the ability to find self compassion and the potential to thrive. I work with clients on anxiety, depression, stress, grief, aging and pain. My approach I approach clients on a mindfulness and client centered focus, with elements of CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and spirituality as needed. My focus I have worked mostly with adults, especially older adults, and feel able to work with clients dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, aging, grief, and bereavement. My communication style I like to create a mutually respectful atmosphere, and I listen to what my clients share with me. I emphasize the safe and nonjudgmental space. My journey to therapy I spent several years as a military chaplain, during this time I discovered how important mental health was to all individuals. Since leaving the military, I have focused on continuing on the path of "right livelihood" (a Buddhist ideal) to help others as I am able. My goals for you Does the client have specific goals or does the client need help with goal-setting. What does the client want to get out of therapy, or do they just need to be "heard"? Even just being being heard is a type of goal. My first session with you A shared introduction and I will ask some questions about the client's history and lifestyle, to get a better idea of how to help the client and what the client is here for.
