Thank you for considering me as your therapist on your journey of healing. My name is Dr. Matthew Schauer, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with 15+ years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I obtained a doctorate in psychology (Psy.D.) from Alliant International University. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and relationship distress, among other challenges. I hope to support your healing and increase your quality of life. My approach My client-centered approach allows my education and experience to support you with evidence-based practices based on your needs. I utilize a variety of orientations including IFS, Gottman method, EFT, CBT, DBT, MI, Gestalt, family systems, and the trauma resiliency model. My personality is woven into my approach; I aim to support you with compassion and empathy providing a safe space where you can be heard, and at times I may be humorous and challenging. My focus I work with clients who are suffering from anxiety, depression, and trauma as far back as childhood. Some of my clients also have substance use as part of what they are seeking to overcome. Some clients struggle with Obsessive-compulsive disorder seeking to get their life back. Many of my clients have relationship distress with their intimate partner or family members. I provide couples counseling using the Gottman method to help couples communicate with each other and practice new ways of experiencing each other that will increase the health of their relationship. My communication style I emphasize a safe non-judgemental environment where my aim is to empower you. You can expect to receive an opportunity to grow, change, heal, and increase your quality of life. I hope to guide you on your path staying 1/2 a step behind to ensure that you own your progress.
