About

Life can be stressful and sometimes overwhelming. For many of us life presents ongoing challenges such as maintaining healthy relationships, pursuing professional goals, managing stress, transitioning through life's stages, or negotiating issues of identity and self-esteem. Our inability to effectively respond to these challenges can take us off course, interrupt our progress and interfere with our ability to be the person we desire to be.

I believe in the potential of people to heal and have the life they deserve. My mission is to help clients experience a heightened level of peace, happiness and self-actualization using insight and cognitive change to foster growth and contentment. I am passionate about self-introspection, self-empowerment and growth.

My name is Jamilah. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Board Certified National Counselor (NCC). I completed my Bachelor of Arts in English/Sociology at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA) and my Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology at Bowie State University (Bowie, MD). I have had the pleasure and opportunity to serve adults, adolescents and military personnel in various settings ranging from private practice, family residences, transitional housing facilities, substance abuse treatment centers to correctional facilities.

My counseling style is warm, empathetic and supportive. My approach to therapy is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. I believe that what works for one person may not work for everyone. I meet each client where they are and employ a variety of approaches, focusing primarily on cognitive behavioral therapy and psycho-education. I enjoy working with clients who are seeking to overcome challenges from their past or in their present life such as: depression, anxiety, codependency, loss/grief, marital/relationship conflict, perfectionism, people pleasing, low self esteem, work-home life imbalance, domestic violence, parenting challenges, family conflict, women’s issues, difficulty with life transitions, etc. I would love to partner with you to turn your crisis into opportunity, pain into possibility and tragedy into triumph.
