About

My name is Donna Southard.I provide Individual, marital, and family therapy. My philosophy for therapy is that relationships are the basis of everything, so I often describe myself as a relationship based therapist. In order for therapy to work we must establish trust and form a bond, for us to move forward to working on the issues that brought you here. Relationships between us and our family, significant others, children, friends, co-workers,.... are often our greatest blessings, and our number one stressors. Which often leads to anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. So I believe when we learn to understand and function better in relationships we are happier and healthier. I am very relaxed and like to have some fun and humor in the therapeutic process. I have 29 years of experience, and have worked with all ages and back grounds. If you are looking for a very structured therapy session, loaded with questions and "how do you feel", I might not be for you. I like to use dialogue to explore history and individual patterns. My philosophy is you can't change what you don''t understand. I have worked in community, home-based, in-patient, court ordered, military, christian, and school settings. I also have worked in the city, rural areas, suburban, and now coastal, being licensed in Illinois, Indiana, and North Carolina. I have some specialized experience working with chronic illness, foster care, adoption, families dealing with a members addiction, owing a small business , to name a few. I love the work I do, and try to make counseling be something you want to do and can enjoy, not dread.
Therefore, If I sound like someone you would like to work with, I look forward to the opportunity!
