About
I’m Christopher Freeman, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. My educational background includes a B.S.in Psychology and Human Services (Clayton State University, 2009) and a Master’s in Education (Clinical Mental Health Counseling concentration, 2012) from the University of West Georgia. My professional experience over the past ten years includes working in inpatient psychiatric settings, in-home individual/family therapy, treatment planning, facilitating mental health and substance abuse counseling groups and diagnosing mental health and substance abuse disorders.
You will find me to be active, open, supportive yet, gently challenging while in session. My approach to therapy is an integration of strengths-based, systems and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I believe that we all are equipped with our own unique set of coping skills (strengths) that we may need guidance tapping into. I also believe it best practice to see the individual with respect to the various systems (identities) of which they may be part of. Lastly, I believe that in order to affect change, we have to understand and explore the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
While I provide mental health services for all persons, my areas of professional expertise include working with oppressed groups (sexual minorities, racial minorities) on stressors (homophobia, coming out process, sexual orientation, race identity, gender identity and transitioning, among other issues) that may arise during counseling. I look forward to getting to know you.
