Personal Statement
In my practice I am focused on helping you find meaning and resolution for your adverse or challenging life experiences. With my education in Transpersonal Psychology, as well as my years serving in Medi-Cal Community Mental Health settings, I am able to meet the challenges of debilitating mental illness while also inviting the possibility for humanistic exploration and spiritual development that often accompanies the “dark night of the soul”. Whatever your belief system, secular or faith-based, my goal is for you to feel better connected to the Big Picture of our common reality: humanity as one people, one community, spinning together on this planet we call Earth, in which all of our actions affect both ourselves and each other.
Isolation and alienation are a pandemic of our modern era, and I approach therapy from a systems-oriented perspective that seeks to restore connection to your community, social life, and/or family life (if it is safe for you to do so). For trauma and PTSD, I am oriented towards a Somatic view of symptomology and its resolution. That is to say, trauma becomes “locked” in neuro-muscular memory and is best resolved by connecting awareness of the body and automatic thought processes, and then relaxing these automatic responses that have developed as an adaptation to protect you from danger. I am trained in the use of EMDR, and we can explore this as an option of treatment. As a long time community-organizing activist, I want to inspire and encourage you to liberate yourself and your loved ones from the struggles imposed by societal and economic structures that, in many cases, are a primary generator of mental illness symptoms.
