Personal Statement
Everybody has challenges in life. Most of us deal with our problems pretty well but there are times that things that don’t quite work out as we expected. Sometimes, frankly, we get stuck. It happens to everyone! We might be noticing that we are repeating some unhealthy patterns. We might be aware that we have tried for some time to fix a problem but nothing seems to be working. Then there are times that we get to the point that we don’t know where to turn. Counseling is an opportunity to engage in a dynamic and interpersonal relationship with someone who has made a life commitment through graduate education and years of training to help people in difficult times.
Counseling is an opportunity to tell your story and consider the areas of your life where there is difficulty and how to rewrite that story. That story is rewritten through understanding triggers, challenging personal myths, developing new skills, establishing healthy boundaries, learning good communication skills and much more. There are many different styles of therapy and therapists. The most important thing to know when deciding on a therapist is if this person “fits” you. Not all therapists fit all people. We would very much like to help.
