Personal Statement

Susannah Hyland is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn who specializes in issues related to trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. Additionally, Susannah has experience working with LGBTQIA identified clients and the various systemic challenges they often face. Susannah is also a poly- and kink-aware provider and sees both individuals and couples.

At Park Slope Center for Mental Health I developed programming, supervised and trained over 30 therapists, and oversaw clinical operations of the organization. While there, I worked extensively with clients suffering from the effects of anxiety, depression, grief, psychosis, mood disorders, poverty, systemic racism, physical abuse, displacement, medical maltreatment, and addiction.

Susannah trained in Structural Family Therapy at Minuchin Center and is well versed in working with all kinds of couple and family formations. She also completed her Psychoanalytic training which has provided her with an in-depth understanding of attachment and relational theory. Susannah continues to train in other models that address the wide variance of the human experience.

Susannah feels passionately about providing treatment to people who have historically felt alienated by therapy. She works with each client to create a working relationship that is open and relaxed and empowering.
