Personal Statement
Do you wish you had a happier relationship? Would you like to stop fighting and feel more connected to your partner? Without knowing it, we develop communication patterns that keep us stuck in seemingly endless cycles. It can seem like we are having the same fight over and over again. I use EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) to help you recognize those patterns and change them. EFT helps you get to the root of the issue. The fight isn't really about the dishes, it's about your connection, about how important you are to each other. You can learn to express yourself in ways that your partner can hear, so you both feel understood, loved, and appreciated. When painful experiences from the past interfere in relationships or life in general.
I've been working in the field of mental health for the past 25 years. I started out as a music therapist, then got my master's degree in social work, did some agency work, acted as a supervisor and finally opened the private practice I had always dreamed of. I work with couples and individual adults, specializing in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with individuals. Both of these approaches have been thoroughly researched, and found to be the most effective forms of treatment. I use them because they work!
I grew up in New Jersey.
I focus on two types of clients:
- Couples who want to improve their relationships, who are either fighting a lot, or have become distant, like roommates. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, to help you identify and change the negative cycle that is the enemy of your relationship.
- Individuals who have experienced a traumatic event or a series of negative events that are causing you distress. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps you work through and let go of these events more quickly than traditional talk therapy can.
