Personal Statement
The foundation of my person-centered approach to therapy includes providing unconditional positive regard for the person sitting with me; feeling and demonstrating empathy for that individual's experiences and emotions; and, being authentic in my own words and actions during our time together. Creating a comfortable and safe environment in which thoughts and feelings can be freely expressed and explored contributes to a more meaningful and productive experience.
I believe this allows for healing and growth to occur, as it incorporates trust, respect, and compassion. Within a safe, caring environment, you and I work together to identify and explore issues that get in the way of more rewarding experiences in life. Utilizing strategies best suited for you, we develop ways to move you beyond those roadblocks and toward a path of greater fulfillment.
Having worked with children, adolescents, and adults in outpatient, inpatient, residential, school, and correctional settings, I am most passionate about providing people with the opportunity to discover their strengths and to grow in ways they may not have envisioned for themselves. It is a privilege to share in another person's journey. While I address a wide variety of challenges people may face, I have developed areas of specialty that include trauma (singular or complex), dual diagnoses of mental health / developmental disability, dual diagnoses of mental health / substance use, and problematic sexual behavior in children and adults.
