Personal Statement
With more than 30 years in the therapy field I have come to KNOW that we are, all of us, wired for transformance. In other words, we all have the innate tendency toward healing, growth and thriving. The bumps, bruises and, more severely, traumas that life inevitably dishes out often lead to protective behaviors and perspectives that serve as coping mechanisms and survival skills. The problem is those same protective behaviors prevent us from living a life of satisfying authenticity and deep, open relationships.
Therapy is the sacred and confidential space in which these, up until now, forbidden feelings, self-thoughts, memories can be carefully, sensitively and intentionally brought forth into the light...explored and expressed. Doing so frees the core self to emerge, that special, unique YOU which has been quietly, or not so quietly, aching to take its rightful place.
Many contemporary therapeutic models have taken advantage of the research findings from diverse fields of study. Neuroscience, integrative medicine, mindfulness, somatic therapy, attachment theory, emotion theory, nutrition and more. The synthesis of these innovative approaches has given us a deeper understanding of being human and affords us greater access to effective treatment. I have been particularly drawn to AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy). While I do have training in and utilize a variety of modalities (i.e. EMDR, Art Therapy, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, EFT, Authentic Movement, etc.), I deeply appreciate the non-pathologizing, emotion-focused, present-oriented, person-centered, attachment-based, interpersonal emphasis and spiritually grounded nature of AEDP. (Wow, that's a mouthful!)
I invite you to join me on a journey to the center of your self. Whether "you" are an individual, couple or family, I am always honored to get to know you and help facilitate the emergence of your unique core self which lies ready to be seen, known and fully lived.
