Personal Statement
I rely heavily on the power of the therapeutic relationship to assist in addressing difficult thoughts and emotions that lead to stress. I employ a very casual approach that focuses on building trust and creating a partnership where complex issues can be explored, and insight can be found. I enjoy working with people to achieve increased life satisfaction, control over thoughts and feelings, and an overall sense of understanding oneself.
My approach is eclectic and interpersonally based, using psychodynamic and self-psychology approaches. I believe in the healing power of mindfulness and self-awareness, and join my clients in their journey of self-exploration.
I have experience working with all forms of trauma, as well as depression, anxiety, addiction, and relationship stress. In addition to interpersonal theories, I am also trained in cognitive behavioral based brief interventions. I have a focus on young adults/professionals who are confronted with increased stress due to career development and life transitions. It's my belief that as life stress increases, one's view of self becomes challenged. I am humbled to explore these challenges in a collaborative and enlightening way that provides understanding and healing.
I have over 10 years of mental health experience providing treatment in a variety of settings including community based nonprofit agencies, Veteran’s Affairs, and research centers. In addition to providing treatment, I have experience in program development and training, as well as providing supervision and clinical consultation. I also teach in the graduate social work program at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. I bring this diversity of experience into the treatment that I provide, encompassing both professional experience and networks.
