Personal Statement
I am a strengths-based LCSW with twenty years of experience working in the field of mental health. I specialize in working with teens and families but also enjoy working with couples and young professionals. I feel the range of professional and personal experiences I have had throughout my career, along with my natural ability to create and cultivate supportive relationships with my clients, sets me apart as a therapist.
I have a lot of experience working with clients struggling to overcome trauma, resolve historic family rupture and improve their mood and relationship health. The foundation of my work is rooted in attachment and narrative principles. I always consider the health of my client through the lens of relationship (historic and current); and with respect to their perception of self related to their "personal story". I believe my ability to connect authentically with my clients, in a down-to-earth and comfortable manner is my greatest strength and that the therapeutic relationship, alone, has curative power. I love using humor in sessions and even teach guitar!
For parents seeking support for their struggling teen, I am excellent when it comes to creatively collaborating with you and your family and at helping to promote deeper understanding between yourself and your child or children. I always concentrate on the health and love I see in a family and have success, as a result, helping parents and children open up to one another and solve the problems that have arisen within the home. I always involve parents closely in my work, weaving individual and family therapy together in a manner that I believe produces the best results.
I understand that reaching out for counseling can be stressful. I always like to start things out by having an initial conversation that is low-pressure and allows us to get a sense of one another and the problem that led to you seeking therapy.
