Personal Statement
I like to find people's strengths and encourage them to use their strengths. For couples and parents I like to emphasize that you are experts in your spouse or child, and I like to hear what has worked in the past. Accepting forgiveness for yourself is essential in moving forward. I especially like to work with the idea that we benefit from a positive audience. When we know that someone believes in us we function far more powerfully than when we believe we are being viewed with disdain.

There is more than one way to look at a problem: one could look at it from the viewpoint that our relationship models are what we tend to imitate, but there is also the idea that the way we think about problems can be irrational, and letting go of impossible tasks and taking on realistic goals can be life saving. In couples counseling I like to encourage setting a mood each day, and not to expect our spouses to change immediately. In parenting it is important to have realistic expectations.
