Personal Statement

At over 30 years of experience (in 2022), I am proud to say that I am the most experienced gay men's specialist licensed psychotherapist in the United States today, as the founder of GayTherapyLA.com. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California (LCS18290), and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. I specialize in helping gay men solve problems in their personal and professional lives, and improve their quality of life. I am a former adjunct associate professor at USC, teaching courses in psychotherapy, couples therapy, and LGBT issues. I am certified in Consensual Non-Monogamy and Polyamorous Relationships, and in Psychiatric Social Work. I help gay men (and gay male couples) close the gap between how life is, and how they would like it to be, in their mental health, health, career, relationships, sex life, family life, and finances.

I originally was a specialist in HIV/AIDS mental health, and I've been living with HIV/AIDS myself since being diagnosed at age 26 in 1990. I was the Chair of the LA County HIV Mental Health Task Force, and had a career of 10 years as a clinical director at various AIDS service organizations in Los Angeles County.

I have also been a Clinical Supervisor of new therapists for over 20 years, and a mentor to other LGBT-affirmative therapists. I am the host of the podcast,"Gay Therapy LA with Ken Howard, LCSW, CST" with over 100 episodes heard by over 8,000 people per month in over 40 countries. My blog library has hundreds of articles in support of gay men's mental health and well-being.

I offer sessions in my office in Los Angeles (near San Vicente and Sixth Street), but mostly through webcam from my home office in West Hollywood, California. I also offer life/career/relationship/executive coaching services to gay men all over the United States and the world.

I live in West Hollywood, California, with my husband of 20 years (in 2022).
