Personal Statement
Katie has been active in the community, leading support groups for those suffering from eating disorders, as well as giving numerous presentations on various mental health topics. She is the author of a noted thesis project that researched the efficacy of collage journaling when dealing with body image dissatisfaction. In addition, she is an avid reader and is diligent about pursuing continuing education opportunities in order to stay current with the latest research and trends in the field.
She believes in creating a safe place for her clients, where they feel heard, empowered, and equipped to confront the challenges in their lives. She uses a holistic approach that addresses the mental, emotional, physical, social, sexual, and spiritual aspects of recovery. Due to her background in education and the arts, she utilizes psycho-educational strategies and creativity in the treatment process.
She believes in a multi-dimensional treatment approach, and when appropriate she will work along side doctors, nutritionists, schools, and other professionals in order to best serve her clients’ needs.
