Personal Statement

Karen Cox has worked in the mental health field for 20 years and has been a Marital and Family therapist (LMFT) for 7 years. Karen became fascinated with the family system while in college; she learned that if one person in the family system changes their behavior then the rest of the family will have to change their behavior. Everyone has the power to heal and change themselves given the right guidance.

Karen’s focus over the last decade has been on the family system and its effects on each family member. Karen utilizes a person-centered approach. She works with children, adolescents & adults who experience a wide range of concerns. Karen has experience working with people who identify as queer, bisexual, lesbian, gay, asexual, or transgender. Couples are also a major focus in Karen’s practice.

Play therapy techniques can be utilized for children and adults, such as working in a sand tray. This approach is quite effective in many different situations for adults and children.
