Personal Statement

I am a licensed independent social worker, counselor, and therapist, offering many services to individuals, couples, and families in the Iowa City area. The approach I use is mindfulness based cognitive therapy, which helps people cope with issues, such as negative self-talk and other destructive thought patterns. Through this process, clients will learn how to foster positivity in their lives, transforming their thoughts and behaviors to discover inner peace and wellness.

Through self-discovery, reflection, and acceptance, people can use the tools within them to grow and heal from past injuries. Some other issues people may need guidance through include anger management, divorce, learning disabilities, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), spirituality, anxiety, grief, parenting, and other life transformations. In addition to individual counseling, I also help couples through promoting effective communication skills. These skills are based on deep listening, reflection, and respect.

I have over 30 years’ experience, and my approach involves Native American philosophy and practice. I hope to use these thoughts and experiences to empower individuals understand their power and purpose.
