Personal Statement
Psychotherapy involves sitting down with a compassionate, objective individual to focus on yourself and your life issues. Goals are discussed and decided upon in collaboration between you and your therapist. Therapy can be short-term (6-8 weeks) focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth.
There may be homework assigned, such as reading a handout and completing the exercises, or practicing a new skill in the real world. For therapy to be most effective you must be an active participant, both during and between the sessions. It is important to process what has been discussed and integrate it into your life between sessions.
People seeking psychotherapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work towards self-change, and create greater awareness in their lives.
