Personal Statement

I have been licensed as a psychologist for twenty five years and have specialized training in relationship conflict, substance abuse, depression and anxiety. My training includes internships and Staff Psychologist positions at U.C.S.D. Psychological Services, and Supervising Psychologist at Scripps Behavioral Health. I am committed to community service and have served on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Psychological Association and the Aids Foundation. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative effort in which we explore the past context of current behavior while promoting proactive behavioral and emotional change.

The methods I utilize depend on the presenting problems, clients' goals and on treatments which are supported by reliable research. I believe that therapy is most effective when approached from a compassionate and non-judgmental framework. Approaches I use include cognitive-behavioral therapy, art therapy, communication training, family of origin work and self-psychology.

I have chosen my practice location to reflect my belief that a safe, comfortable and serene therapy environment helps clients to explore and work on their goals most effectively. My office is in a converted house and I think you will find it warm and welcoming.
