Personal Statement
I firmly believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Sometimes it is others who berate and devalue us. Other times, we berate and devalue ourselves. To achieve the sense of peace we are seeking, we must ensure that both of these issues are addressed.
My approach to psychotherapy is straightforward, direct, and motivationally-based. Although generalized supportive approaches are used, my primary goal is to help patients identify and directly address the problems causing distress.
I primarily use cognitive and behavioral interventions to address the symptoms being reported by patients and believe that directly addressing problematic thoughts and behaviors will bring about the fastest results. Given this, my feedback is generally direct, and sometimes blunt. In practice, what this means is that if you tell me that you are either doing or thinking something that is unhelpful, I tend to simply point that out.
