Personal Statement
I believe in the mental health profession as a means of helping others to become more effective in their day-to-day lives. I believe in the model of the counselor as a skilled helper whose means can be strengthened through research in the field. The pursuit of my undergrad degree in psychology and my masters in marriage & family therapy and community counseling was a result of an earnest wish to help others.
I am also seeking training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) to continue to expand this approach. He combines this experiential work with practical exercises clients can do at home, like mindfulness techniques, to supplement work in sessions. My strong belief that all behavior makes sense in context informs his compassionate, nonjudgmental approach that allows him to meet clients where they are. I continue to practice intentionality in his own therapy as a client since 2006.
