Personal Statement
For many people, walking through a therapist’s door for the first time can be intimidating but it doesn’t have to be. My practice offers professional and confidential services in a safe, comfortable and home-like environment. I enjoy working with children, adolescents and adults who are dealing with life issues that result in depression, anger, and an inability to function in their daily lives. I also enjoy working with couples and families. I believe that families function as a system and when one family member is out of sync, the entire family is disrupted.
In my practice, I see children as young as 3 years of age. Play is the "language of the child" and Play Therapy allows children to work through their issues in a non-threatening environment. I am a Registered Play Therapist through the Association for Play Therapy. RPT's are licensed practitioners with a master's or higher mental health degree, 150+ hours of specialized Play Therapy training, substantial clinical and Play Therapy experience and supervision and at least 36 hours of continuing education during a 3 year renewal cycles.
In my practice, I utilize Animal Assisted Therapy.
My patients of all ages look forward to visiting with Atticus (a non-allergenic Bichon Poodle mix) and Scout (cat). We have no problem separating the animals from patients if requested. Studies show that animals soothe and comfort humans in times of stress.
