Personal Statement
The strength of family stems from the couples unity and ability to overcome challenges. Those challenges can become harder to handle at times, and it is okay to reach out for assistance. In therapy, the therapist stands as a guide to work through these challenges. It is essential to understand that the couple is the expert of their lives and brings their own story and perspective into sessions. Through the couple’s personal story and perspective, the therapist can increase the couple’s ability to work through their challenges. The goal in couples therapy is to change the patterns we find ourselves stuck in and increase the emotional vulnerability and communication within the couple’s relationship.
Brianna works from a bottom-up approach as a trauma-informed practice. The bottom-up approach looks at the mind and body’s trauma response. Discussing the trauma at hand can sometimes be difficult, and it can often be healthy to reconnect with one’s body trauma response first. Taking this approach can be found healing and strengthening for the client. During sessions, Brianna will work with the client to find positive and beneficial mindfulness activities and coping skills to work towards healing.
The Military Family is strong and resilient. The soldier learns to stand by their country and continue to support their family. The spouse holds the home front down during times of deployment and so much more. The child learns at an early age to adapt to frequents moves, become resilient, and be self-sacrificing. The family is strong and builds a special connection through the military culture. The family can experience challenges through the frequent Permanent Changes of Stations (PCS moves), deployment, and separation from extended family. Through Brianna’s personal experience of growing up as a military child and clinical training, she helps military families and supports them through the challenges
