Personal Statement
In life there is pain and there is suffering. Pain is inevitable, suffering is what can be stopped. The moment you experience a loss there is the inevitable pain of feeling the absence and yearning for that which is no longer there. That pain is something to digest and learn from. So you leave that loss having learned from it, how you recovered from it, and you move on wiser, with more compassion, changed in some way affirming your life.
Suffering on the other hand is when you experience that pain from the loss and then become stuck. It may be that you constantly fear others in your life leaving, or a loss of desire to connect with others, or you get stuck blaming yourself feeling shame, or in a perpetual sadness. We each have our unique ways in which we do suffering. What does your suffering look like? How do you get stuck? It is my job as therapist to help you answer these questions to provide the opportunity for you to live your life free from your stuckness toward ever increasing life affirming ways.
I am bilingual (Español & English) and bicultural, originally from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Because of my cross-cultural life, my practice includes respect for differences as they show up in our many faces such as gender, class, race, and sexual orientation.
