•I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor with 24 years of professional work experience. I live in North Carolina with my huge Maine Coon cat, and my feisty puppy. I have training and experience in a number of evidence-based practices- those are approaches to treatment that we know from research work well for people. One approach doesn’t fit all people, so I have training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, among others.
•I have experience working with adults in the college, outpatient, and hospital settings. I have often worked with women to discuss role strain, balancing work and family, and self-care. I specialize in the treatment of trauma.
•I have a mind/body approach to care as many of my clients are impacted by medical conditions such as weight gain, diabetes, or chronic pain.
•I believe that my clients are their own best experts and may just not have tools in their toolbox for how to move forward. We may work on developing more hobbies of interest to you, or how to find people with similar interests, or on coping skills for anxiety. We may use expressive or experiential approaches such sharing music or use relaxation training or journaling. I sometimes even use apps as part of our work together if that is something you enjoy.
•Finally, we will have some laughter together. Counseling can be difficult work, and we will celebrate your successes. I look forward to getting to know you better!
