About
I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Utah. I have been practicing since June 2016, and I love what I do. I have worked in a small agency in community mental health, working with clients seeking therapy for mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence issues. I have experience working individually with adults, adolescents, and children 6-12, as well as working with groups, families, and couples. Prior to becoming a counselor, I worked with teens in residential treatment centers and group homes for 8 years as a mentor.
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Utah in 2011, minoring in human development and family studies. I received a Master of Science degree in mental health counseling from the University of Phoenix in 2016. My master's program was CACREP accredited. Additionally, I am certified in domestic violence counseling in Utah, and I am a certified counselor and supervisor in the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach substance abuse counseling. Additionally, I hold a certification in Moral Reconation Therapy and an advanced certification in Seeking Safety trauma counseling. I am currently serving as the 2020 secretary of the Utah Association for Domestic Violence Treatment. I consider myself an LGBTQ+ affirming counselor and have experience working with LGBTQ+ clients.
I take an eclectic approach to counseling and believe individualized care is crucial to successful outcomes. I have specialties in trauma/PTSD treatment, addiction, depression, and anxiety, and I am well-versed in relationship issues. I draw from modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT, existential therapy, person-centered, solution-focused treatment, structural family therapy, career counseling, and positive psychology models. I work hard to make my sessions and interactions trauma-informed, and I take continuing education in trauma-informed treatment very seriously. I believe a strengths-based approach is very important to successful therapy. All of my clients have made it through tough situations because of the strengths inside them. My job is to help them recognize and develop those strengths to address their issues. I also enjoy employing humor in sessions when I can and love laughing with clients as we progress together.
I enjoy living in Northern Utah with my husband, kids, and a mini-zoo of pets. We have cats, birds, a hamster, and a feisty bunny to keep us smiling. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, camping, reading, writing, singing, and cooking. I believe Weird Al Yankovic's music can heal the world.
