About
I have a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University and currently working towards my Doctorate of Psychology (Psy D) and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. Since I began studying Psychology at the University of Houston, I felt the call to continue learning in order to help my community, reason why I ended also studying Sociology and graduating with two full Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Sociology. Not stopping there, I have continued to refine my skills and my education, earning certifications as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and a Certified Autism Specialist (CAS). I am fluent in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese and Italian.
I have worked at a non-profit organization working with individual crisis and family issues. I have counseled clients who have faced significant trauma in their lives, struggling with anxiety and recovering from personal situations which may include having suicidal thoughts. I have coached clients with low or complete lack of self-esteem, inspiring and motivating them to grow confidence.
My therapeutic style uses a totally non-judgemental approach, helping clients with physical, emotional and mental health issues improving their sense of well‐being, alleviating feelings of distress and resolve crises. I use an eclectic approach therapy technique as an integrative form of psychotherapy that adapts to the unique needs of each specific client, depending on the problem, the treatment goals, and the person's expectations and motivation. This approach will help my clients achieve insights, develop strategies and provide tools that can be used immediately to improve your quality of life.
I believe that behavior is affected by age, race, class, family, relationships, gender, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, disability status, and that people sometimes need help to reach a state of psychological well-being. Being culturally competent gives me ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures. Cultural competence encompasses being aware of one's own world view, developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences. gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and world views.
I specialize in issues of depression, trauma, anger management and behavioral issues, eating disorders, grief, PTSD, self-esteem, self-harm and suicidal ideations, teen violence, and women’s health issues, as well as programs for the prevention and support for victims of domestic and sexual violence. I will also provide educational information to better assist clients in defining goals and implementing action plans to achieve personal, social, educational, and vocational adjustment.
You’re not alone… I’ll help you through it!
