About
Hi! My name is Rachel Lathrop and I love working with all ages to find their life's passion. I have a passion for assisting others remove anything blocking them from becoming their greatest self and living a life they dream of living. Helping others express their feelings, validating them, or challenging some of that negative thinking, is really an amazing experience.
I practice therapy in my home office located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor's in Social Work in 2014 and Master's in Social Work with a concentration in Children and Families in 2016. I have worked in the field of mental health and substance abuse for the past 8 years in an adolescent residential treatment facility and in an adult psychiatric hospital, along with doing private practice at home. I currently work full-time with the Veteran's Association, providing Cognitive Processing Therapy for those identified with PTSD and Substance Use Disorder. I have experience working with a variety of ages and backgrounds who are struggling with a variety of challenges. I have experience successfully treating anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, self-esteem, bipolar disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), children’s issues, teen issues, life changes/adjustments, grief and loss, life transitions, family issues, parenting skills, and anger management.
I believe we can all grow through challenging experiences by increasing out self-awareness. Sometimes when another person, who is not in our immediate circle, can offer a perspective or additional support that provides us clarity on a difficult or challenging situation when we feel stuck. It would be my greatest honor to be that person for you. My approach to working with my clients is that I consider them as an expert in their own life, and I help them in finding strengths within their life and themselves. I also provide a safe and peaceful environment where one can share without fear of being judged.
I can interact with you in whatever manner you feel most comfortable, whether that be video, phone, or text sessions. Most of my availability is on the evenings and on weekends, but I check my messages throughout each weekday. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, toddler, and our cat and dog. I love to read, travel, and explore new things. I look forward to working with you!
