Hello. I am Dr. Nena Kircher, a licensed Clinical Psychologist in multiple states. I completed my MA in Clinical Psychology in 2007 and my PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) in 2009. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings and with individuals who had a range of concerns. My primary areas of focus include stress and anger management, working with survivors of trauma and abuse, managing issues related to chronic pain and other health related concerns, managing impulsivity and compulsive behaviors (e.g. compulsive online behaviors), and intimacy and sexual concerns.

My therapeutic style is direct. I communicate in a straightforward manner, with an emphasis on skills we can use to improve our day to day life. My primary therapeutic modality is cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which involves understanding how our thoughts and emotions lead to our behaviors and using this understanding to change the patterns that are unhealthy or simply unhelpful in our lives. I am trained in both Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have also utilized and found benefit from both these techniques in my own life. I also frequently incorporate narrative therapy or bibliotherapy into my work with clients. This involves using storytelling (through books, movies, etc.) to help make sense of the problems in our own lives. As a therapist, my role is not to tell you what to do and I do not have all the answers. However, I can join you on your journey for a while and help you find some useful tools for managing the major and minor stressors of life.
