About

Monica “Mo” Burge was born and raised in Rome, GA. Following graduation from Model High School, she began her college career at Clark Atlanta University as a mass communication major. Two years later she transferred to Georgia State University and earned a degree in Journalism with a concentration in public relations and a minor in English in 2005. In her 20 years as a journalist, Mo has written extensively on the human condition and continued her studies on human behavior and motivation earning a master of science degree in counselor education, with a concentration in clinical mental health counseling from Jacksonville State University in 2017. She has a passion for news and information as well as the connectivity, mental health and well-being of her community, particularly those who are marginalized and disenfranchised. She has made a commitment to the betterment of her community and is the president and CEO for A Liberated Mind Alliance (ALMA) Inc., a nonprofit she co-founded with her mother Teresa Burge. Collectively Mo is a mental health advocate, therapist and freelance journalist who works to identify the important issues affecting the Northwest Georgia area and connecting others to the employment, financial and mental wellness resources available in the community through psychoeducation, counseling, empowerment and advocacy. Her areas of specialty include trauma, grief, anger management, domestic violence, self-esteem, diversity and inclusion and self-actualization. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, The Atlanta Press Club, the NAACP, and One Community United.
