About
My name is Michael Riley. I received my Masters in Counseling from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. Shortly after completing my bachelor degree I decided to focus on Mental Health. I have worked in a variety of mental health and social services occupations including a homeless shelter, a behavioral health hospital, youth and adult residential, and community counseling. I have experience with both adults and adolescents who have been dealt difficult situations leading to radical behaviors or thinking patterns. Over the last five years I have had experience in treating people with depression, anxiety, trauma, and emotional/behavioral disorders.
Counseling is an opportunity for one to learn and grow by identifying and exploring different emotions and how those emotions can affect a person, and how they can deal with these emotions in a way that provides healing and stability. I enjoy helping people identify problems and find ways to resolve these problems. I help people achieve their goals be focusing on their strengths, improve communication or better identify and express their emotions, work on problem solving, and help them identify what they can change in their lives to help them achieve their goals. This might be accomplished by including psycho education and learning social emotional and emotional regulation skills, coping skills, and improve thinking patterns. Watching people gain insight from counseling and make changes to better their life is what I like best in this profession.
