About

Hi there, I'm Melissa! My name is Melissa Shaw and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with clients through telehealth. I support clients through transitions in life, exploring identity, and managing symptoms that are keeping them from being their best self. My approach My approach is ultimately based on what my client wants to work on: whether that be a short-term solutions-focused approach to address system changes in a family/relationship or to manage the aftermath of a crisis situation, a cognitive behavioral approach to brainstorm symptom management that has brought about chaos in their life, or a psychodynamic approach to explore the depths of one's dreams and soul purpose. I specialize in looking at imagination as a problem-solving tool to bring about a change that my client is looking for. My focus I have most commonly worked with children and teenagers to navigate hardships, trauma, and family stress--including anxiety, depression, identity, culture, school and home stressors, divorce, suicidal ideation, friendships, bereavement, and eating disorders. I have experience working with families, couples, and adult individuals on an array of conditions including family stressors, bereavement, goal-setting, intergenerational trauma, life transitions, and parenting. My communication style My communication style is calm, authentic, and soul-acknowledging. Focusing on establishing a safe and healthy connection with my client will foster honesty in the relationship. I believe each person is trying their best to navigate this life and I am there to witness that journey. My journey to therapy I became a therapist out of a building curiosity to understand the soul's depths and desires. I found that while learning the profession, I was also being asked to face my own demons and depths. This process completely changed my life and I am now living in my own power and intuition.
