About

Welcome to my site! My name is Lanie Mathis and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 3 years of experience providing therapy services.

I believe that no one is too broken, hopeless, or unworthy of having a life that is worth living.

I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, PTSD, self-esteem issues, relationship/family issues, addictions, life transitions, grief and loss. I am trained in basic EMDR to help my clients who have experienced trauma and/or emotional abuse. My experience includes working in an outpatient agency providing mental health and substance abuse treatment with adults, crisis intervention and assessment, and working with court mandated individuals.

My approach to therapy is client centered: clients are the experts on their lives and determine the direction and depth of therapy. I believe that in order for therapy to be successful, there must be strong therapeutic rapport between myself and my clients. I offer a warm, friendly, non-judgmental place to sort through the toughest situations in life.

Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish their goals. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in exploring relationships among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to aid in discovering dysfunctional thought patterns leading to self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. Through the use of EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), I work with clients to build skills and resources that can be used in their daily lives, as well as, processing trauma with the goal of moving clients towards a life involving the capacity for experiencing joy and freedom.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two dogs (Dooley & Ellie). I love traveling and Georgia football!

It takes courage to take the first step and seek counseling. I look forward to beginning a rewarding therapeutic relationship with my clients.
