About

Hi there, I'm Maya! Maya Attia, LMFT# 139693, is a sex-positive, LGBTQ+ affirming, polyamory, kink, and BDSM-friendly therapist. She offers space to express, explore, and learn about your whole self to find ease and greater satisfaction in life. My approach My approach is humanistic and tender. I facilitate conversations that inspire insight and change. I enjoy using the practical tools from cognitive behavioral therapy, ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), and other modalities, but at my core, I am relational. My focus I help adults and couples gain awareness and skills to cope with hardship. I also support couples to communicate, set boundaries, and meet their needs, including those where one partner identifies as neurodiverse. My communication style My clients would describe me as someone who's pretty easy to talk to. I've been told that I'm one of those therapists that you can "actually have a conversation with" as opposed to just asking, "how does that make you feel??". My journey to therapy Before becoming a therapist, I was a voice teacher. I quickly realized my students wanted more than a voice lesson: they craved a safe place to express their feelings. So I felt called to give people a comforting environment to embody, explore, and learn about themselves without judgment or shame. My goals for you We determine where you're at and what makes sense for you. For instance, if you've never run a marathon, I'm not going to suggest you run one now. I start off with small and sustainable changes. My first session with you The first sessions are generally intake, where I ask you a bunch of different questions in order to understand your history and areas you are struggling. During this time, we also set some goals for us to work on together.
