About

You've taken the first step by seeking help- that's great! My belief is it is brave to seek help and everyone can benefit from counseling, whether is is short-term solution-focused or involves more time and processing. Having had counseling myself, as well as experience providing counseling to adults, I know that every person will not "jive" so to speak with every counselor- and that's okay. So to help you determine if I would be a good resource for you, here is information about me and my counseling approach:

I am a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2013) with a Master's degree in Counseling and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Alabama. I work with adults who want to improve their day to day coping and mental well-being, in order to deal with complicated relationships and face other life challenges. I want to meet you where you are in your journey, move at the pace you decide, and make sure the goals you have for yourself are the focus of our sessions. I have experience counseling women and men who are having difficulty adjusting to a transition or change in their life; feel nervous, lonely, or depressed often; are seeking to heal from an adverse experience; and desire to make changes in behaviors and thoughts to improve their lives and relationships.

My approach is based mainly on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. I also incorporate aspects of other counseling theories for a more comprehensive, eclectic approach. My therapeutic style involves respect, unconditional positive regard, and non-judgement. My belief is our personality is not shaped by experiences, but by our interpretations of our experiences. We'd look at inaccurate interpretations that can greatly impact your present actions, so that over time, your interpretations become more realistic. We would agree upon short-term, specific goals and long-term goals. I will be there to encourage you to make positive changes in your life and take responsibility for your own actions.

I look forward to communicating with you!
