I have been a therapist since 1999 and have worked with people with a variety of issues. The focus of much of my work over the span of my career has been substance use and abuse, and I have treated those who have been using substances, in addition to their families. I have also concentrated on the treatment of people who are dealing with the aftermath of trauma and physical/sexual/emotional/mental/spiritual abuse. Much of my work in the last decade has been focused on providing services to members of the LGBTQI community as well.
My training was originally as an Art Psychotherapist and I became a Licensed Professional Counselor as well, in order to meet the needs of clients for whom art therapy was not a good match. My approach is humanistic, with a foundation in feminist theory, particularly in its application to the right to self determination for all people. I have also studied Buddhist philosophy, and utilize many of its principals in my practice, with a focus on its application to creating mental and emotional balance.
