About

My name is Jason Shaw, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. I have been a licensed therapist for 3 years with a background in crisis counseling. I've worked as an elementary school teacher for 8 years and have 6 years of working with children in day care centers. I graduated from Hardin Simmons University in 2012 with a Masters in Counseling and Human Development. I have training in Mental Health First Aid to help those who have expressed feelings of self-harm or suicide. With my work with a non-profit organization, I have been able to help biological and adoptive families cope with trauma and healing. I am of mixed race and understand the struggles making your own way.

My style of therapy is realty focused and the goal is to find hope, healing and direction through faith based means. My other main means of therapy are Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused and Nouthetic Counseling . I also work a lot with art and music as ways to creatively express our feelings as well as deal with past trauma. I believe that as we are honest with ourselves and others and are willing to proactively work to address our struggles, we can find solutions to the challenges that we face, reconcile our past hurts as well as find contentment and peace in our current situation.

Life will always give us challenges and as we face those challenges together, we grow as individuals, families and communities. I look forward to working with you in this stage of life where an open ear is waiting to listen.
