I am licensed by the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have a master's degree in marriage and family therapy, a master of science degree in social work, and a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in social work. I received my LPC license in 1999 and have been practicing, off and on, for about 20 years. I also work as a university professor and teach social work. I have worked as a counselor in several settings including inpatient behavioral healthcare hospitals, addiction treatment facilities, and outpatient behavioral healthcare settings. I have worked with clients with a range of presenting problems including serious mental illnesses (e.g., major depressive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and other mental disorders and issues), addictions, marital and family issues, and relationship problems.

My counseling style is warm, empathic, genuine, and respectful. I strive to listen (read) carefully, understand, and treat everybody with dignity and respect. My approach combines systems (i.e., person-in-environment) with cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and motivational interviewing theories. Basically, this translates into me thinking about human problems as having multiple causes, while striving to deliver effective strategies for solving or coping with those problems. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
