About

Welcome! My name is Jamesia Mathis. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University and hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology from Reinhardt University. I have over 7 years of experience working in the mental health field. I have experience with individual and group counseling from various settings such as crisis stabilization, partial-hospitalization, intensive-outpatient, and outpatient for both adolescents and adults. While in these settings, I have become well versed in addiction and substance abuse, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma/abuse, relationship issues, grief self-harm and suicidal ideations.

I believe that one’s thoughts and feelings play a fundamental role in behaviors and that building awareness of negative thinking patterns and maladaptive behaviors can be utilized to initiate a process of change. I work in partnership with you to explore your current and past experiences to help you to identify the root cause of your struggle and explore ways to help you to gain more peace and happiness in your life via conquering your struggle. As such, therapy with me will involve helping you to know that although technically a noun, therapy requires action; it requires a readiness and willingness to address that which pains you.

Therapy is no easy feat. I know that it is not easy to open up to someone about your deepest pains and secrets; some of whom you may have never admitted to yourself. We will move at a pace that is most comfortable for you. I thank you for choosing me to help you navigate this often turbulent journey to mental health wellness.
