About
Over 20 years ago while working as counselor at a supportive residence for substance abusers with mental illness, my clinical supervisor told me, “You got the gift”. I learned that my “gift” was being able to use compassion, integrity and insight to help others identify their goal and partner with them to achieve it. I became a therapist because I care. In my pursuit to perfect my gift, I have obtained my Masters of Social Work, Associates in Theology and Masters of Fine Arts-Creative Writing. I am a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), and Certified Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI). My therapeutic approach is one where the client is the expert on themselves and I am the skilled clinician working with them towards their goals. I utilize many interventions, specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). When working with those who have Intellectual Disability, I incorporate visual aides and activities. A huge part of my treatment success is being able to develop personalized treatment approaches. As a therapist, I have laughed with an 80 year old, cried with a 7yr old, and drew pictures with a teenager, all of these cases resulting in accomplished treatment goals. I am also an artist, with published works of song, poetry and paintings, so I utilize my creativity to implement creative approaches when appropriate in therapy. As a clinician, with cultural diversity, client centered process, and evidence based practice, therapy can work!
