About
Welcome! Something in your life has led you to search for support and you’ve come to the right place. I applaud you. It takes a strong person to pursue counseling and to build the life you want and deserve. I would like to help. Here is a little bit about me and how I can assist you:
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has been in the helping profession for over 35 years. During that time I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families for a wide range of situations including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, divorce, sleep disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and adaptation to stress. My personal philosophy is that every person deserves to be treated as a whole and unique individual and my approach is to provide the same quality care I would want for a family member under similar circumstances. I have been trained to listen carefully to each person’s unique story and to partner with them to address areas that could help alleviate distress and improve functioning and quality of life.
I grew up in New York and trained in Massachusetts, Ohio, Virginia, and Maryland before settling in California. I have been married for 38 years and have two daughters. I received early training in cognitive-behavioral treatment and other symptom focused, short term therapies while I was in graduate school at the Ohio State University. In addition to my work as a therapist, I have served as a teacher, researcher, author and medical ethicist.
My therapeutic style is very client centered, working diligently to understand your goals, objectives, and concerns. I am not a passive therapist but will actively engage in helping you process experiences, responses, thoughts, feelings, and options so that you can enjoy a full and open life.
Clients should try to determine if a counselor is warm, genuine, and potentially helpful. I am easy to talk to and a good listener. I would enjoy meeting you to determine our "goodness of fit" and to better understand your personal situation and the types of changes you would like to pursue. I look forward to helping you in any way I can!
