About
One of my favorite sheroes said, "Critically intervene in a way that challenges and changes" (bell hooks). I found this quote while doing research for my dissertation which focused on rape culture within the Black community. I'd like to believe this quote is one I embody in the work I do with all clients. Being in therapy can be difficult - it's you being vulnerable, meeting a new person, breaking cultural and societal barriers, and getting to know parts of yourself that you'd maybe intentionally turned away from. My goal as a Psychologist is to connect with, walk beside, and consistently challenge you in the goals you have set for yourself...and to help you identify a place to start when the goal may not be clear yet.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Texas, and I currently work full-time in a setting where all my clients are men, transgender women, or individuals who are gender-fluid. I have worked in residential facilities, have experience treating substance abuse and personality disorders, and am very familiar with LGBTQ+ issues. I tend to operate from a multicultural, trauma-informed perspective. At my core, I am psychodynamic and I believe that many of our current issues (i.e. difficulties navigating relationships, communication issues, anger problems, persistent guilt/shame, ingrained trauma responses) may have roots in our formative years. I also understand there are many other issues which are heavily connected to our present situations, such as experiences with racism, classism, homophobia/transphobia, ableism, sexism, etc. With that being said, my day job requires me to use CBT/DBT and Solution-Focused interventions, so I feel comfortable learning your needs and using interventions that are tailored to you.
You're taking a big step by seeking help, so give yourself credit for that. I look forward to meeting you, learning about you, and working together to help you become the best version of your authentic self.
