About
The healing process can be difficult and you've already made the first step! Congrats! Since you're looking for a counselor who fits you best, let me tell you a bit about myself. I have been in the counseling field for about 10 years and love it so much, I also teach in a graduate counseling program. My clinical experiences have been diverse, working with topics such as victims of domestic/intimate partner violence, sexuality, gender identity, people who have experienced trauma, issues of adoption, infertility and more.
My theoretical approaches are firmly grounded in Feminist Theory and Gestalt Therapy. Feminist theory works to both recognize the impact of society on the individual while also creating an egalitarian and empowered counseling environment. Gestalt Therapy believes in the person as a whole and allows the client to non-judgmentally experience themselves in the present moment in order to have a cathartic release within a safe environment. Both of these theories emphasize the importance of the counselor and client relationship. I also utilize many techniques from various theories such as CBT, DBT, ACT, Narrative, Person Centered, and believe in the healing possibilities of art, music, hobbies, chosen family, and more.
As a queer White person, I work to create an anti-racist environment that recognizes the ways in which identity plays a role in belonging and self-acceptance. I am empathic and non-judgmental and believe in walking alongside you on your journey. I view myself as both a mirror for your authentic self and a supportive partner in your healing process. I trust that you have the inherent ability to heal yourself and also know that you cannot control our society and ways in which it marginalizes people.
If I sound like a good fit, I hope to hear from you soon. I look forward to starting our journey together.
