About
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (L.M.F.T.), licensed in Georgia and South Carolina. I have been licensed as a counselor since 1987 - over 33 years. I am also an Approved Supervisor (of therapists) with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I have worked with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, phobias, panic disorders, trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, grief, chronic illnesses, and spiritual issues and end of life issues.
My approach to my clients is warm and compassionate - working with you as a team, to untangle conflicted emotions, wounds from the past and present or future dilemmas that may trouble you. I work carefully and patiently with people - taking them where they are, and dealing with their concerns and questions thoroughly and deeply. My goal is to help facilitate my client's goals - for a better life, more productivity and more joy, peace, and fulfilling relationships.
My treatment approaches are client centered and contextual: understanding people in the context of the family they came from and the family they are forming. I use a variety of treatment styles: cognitive-behavioral, emotionally focused, solution-focused, family systems theory, and, for trauma survivors, EMDR for PTSD. I am an integrative therapist - there are many tools in my toolbox, and I try to match the right tools for the client I am working to help.
I tell my clients, "It is not the weak and crazy people who seek counseling, but the strong and smart ones, who are trying to become stronger and smarter." It takes courage to seek help from a professional. I know, I've done it myself - often. But it can be very rewarding to gain insight, to grow, mature, and become stronger and healthier, and to have healthier relationships. If that's what you want, I am here to support and encourage you. I look forward to working with you!
