About

Hello!!! And welcome to Find A Therapist.com. I am Dr. Chris Bell (he/him), a clinical psychologist with more than nine years of experience in both inpatient, outpatient, and teletherapy settings, including private practice, community clinics, and in hospitals. I spent six of those years in the military treating active duty and retired service members and I now concentrate my practice primarily on assisting members of the LGBTQ+ community with their therapy needs.

I take a warm, engaging, and growth-oriented approach to therapy. I’ve helped clients who are immersed in depression and anxiety, as well as those in a higher functioning place that simply need help navigating through specific struggles with guided support. I utilize several therapeutic methods for healing and personal growth, such as: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Family Systems Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Psychoeducation, Addiction Recovery, and multiple others.

I’ve assisted a diverse clientele who have presented with issues including PTSD, abandonment, alcoholism, addiction, anger, anxiety, caregiver stress, compassion fatigue, depression, bi-polar, existential crisis, family origin, isolation, LGBTQ+, parenting, relationships, schizophrenia, stress, substance abuse, trauma, and young adult concerns.

I work from a client-centered, solutions-focused approach valuing the authentic, whole person and collaborating with each individual in order to address and meet the needs of each unique person. I enjoy offering each client the emotional, relational, and situational support that each needs and deserves. My aim is to provide an environment in which each client feels safe and comfortable discussing the issues in their hearts and minds that they find troubling, painful, or confusing. I always seek feedback from clients to help ensure that we stay on track together. And many of my clients have shared that they most appreciate having gained a new perspective and sense of personal power while navigating and working through painful and difficult situations.

My goal is to help transform clients from harsh inner-critics into self-accepting, newly confident individuals with a large capacity for joy. I want clients to gain strategies and insights that allow them to feel fully expressive, alive and authentic. I want clients to release the old beliefs that keep them stuck in the status quo by shining light on those areas that can open new possibilities and increase freedom of choice.

I’ve also helped clients improve multiple aspects of their relationships, with a major focus on communication and learning how to say what one means, ask for what one wants, and to better hear one’s partner.

As a therapist, I like to balance listening, support, and giving clients concrete strategies that are unique to their personality and situation. I try to challenge clients to take better care of themselves and others. Having a military background influences me to be solutions-focused and to concentrate on those areas that would improve clients’ lives for the better.

I recognize that signing up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started. I am looking forward to meeting and working with you soon.
