About
Hey there! My name is Calvin Burns, and I have been a licensed therapist for about four years, but working in this field has been a dream well over twenty years in the making. My counseling experience has come from private practice, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential, and inpatient facilities that served various mental health needs.
I attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and earned a BA in Psychology and a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. This was the first step towards beginning my career as a counselor. After graduating, I returned home to Dallas, Texas, and achieved my master's degree in counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary.
My counseling specialties include disordered eating, addictive behaviors, depression, anxiety, parenting support, adolescents/emerging adults, and couple's counseling. However, I am comfortable offering counseling to various mental health needs that extend beyond this list. One of the unique gifts that I bring to the therapeutic space is my unwavering hope for others. This hope is something that drives my practice of counseling. When supplemented with support from mental health professionals, I am confident that each individual has the potential to overcome different obstacles they may be facing. I have seen that people can change throughout my time in various therapeutic settings, and I firmly believe that stories can be rewritten.
Through my personal experience in counseling as a child, I began to see the impact of mental health care on an individual. And it was then that I began to think that I wanted to extend the restorative care I had received to others one day. It has been a dream and passion of mine since I was in the seventh grade; I am so grateful that the steps I had taken throughout my life, the support I had received when hard times came around have been there to provide comfort when I was down, grace when I made mistakes, and provide direction when I felt lost. These are just a few reasons I believe having a therapist is a critical aspect of a person's journey.
So, are you ready to identify your suffering and challenge yourself to gain the endurance that can mold you into a new character? If so, I have hope that the work we will do together will help you become a healthier version of yourself.
Despite the issues you may feel like you are wrestling with, I am ready and willing to walk with you through the counseling process. Life can bring obstacles that appear to obstruct our goals, but by partnering with a therapist, you are beginning to navigate your way back to those dreams. Reach out, and take the first step towards helping you reach your full potential.
