About

Hello, my name is Brian Shea. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. I have been a practicing Social Worker for over 20 years. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Work from the State University of NY at Albany in 1999. I have an eclectic background, worked with patients, and their families in a variety of circumstances. My personal Philosophy is this world is a challenging place! Nothing is stable or constant. We can all use support and guidance. We all learned some level of coping style from our family of origin. Many times, we need to revisit our childhood to understand if what we learned is meeting our current needs. My career has allowed me the opportunity to evolve and learn from many real-life experiences threw my clients. I have been able to assist children and adults from a differentiated pool of socio-economic backgrounds deal with Emotional and mentally challenging circumstances. I have supported and helped over a thousand patients and their families deal with the variety of end-of-life challenges on Hospice, and now I am assisting young people and adults with mental health challenges.

I have supported and helped individuals dealing with trauma and PTSD, helped manage anxiety, and depression, and navigated personal challenges in this rigid world, looking for ways to cope and survive. I have helped with mending relationships, helping asses life choices and making life changes, and learning how to cope with the stuckness and confusion during challenging stages of development. I use Internal Family Systems Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and other Cognitive Behavioral techniques, as well as Motivational Interviewing, Collaborative Problem Solving, and skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy. My primary style is using CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). My understanding of the human experience is greatly informed by Family Systems Theory, Trauma-informed Care, theories of human development, and intersectional theories of liberation. Humor is a key component of my style. I think we all need to learn how to laugh. All sessions start with getting updated as to where you are at today.
