About

Hello! I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Florida. I earned a Master of Social Work degree from Barry University’s trauma-informed curriculum. I also a hold a MS degree in Psychology from Albizu University in Miami, Florida. My experience in the mental health field began in 2002 when I enlisted into the U.S. Army as a mental health specialist.

While on active duty in the military I gained invaluable knowledge and experience as I worked in various mental health settings including acute psychiatry, outpatient mental health, and substance abuse. Following the military, I relocated to South Florida where I worked for five years as a mental health tech for the Department of Veterans Affairs. While at the VA, I facilitated group therapy and individual counseling sessions with veterans coping with posttraumatic stress, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse issues.

As I began my graduate studies in clinical social work and psychology, I realized that although my experiences were specific to the military and veteran communities, many of the core issues I had worked with were universal. Posttraumatic Stress, anxiety, and depression affect people of all ages and all walks of life. I also learned that resiliency and healthy coping skills are tools that everyone can learn.

I believe in a non-judgmental, client-centered, empowerment approach to therapy. I also find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) as helpful in addressing and treating various mental health issues. Lastly, one of the most untapped resources that I like to use in mental health is creativity. I am a writer and performer in a theater company that explores trauma and healing through poetry and performance.

Creative expression is a powerful tool in both my personal and professional life. Exploring this through visual art, writing, dancing, etc. can help us express ourselves, ease stress, and have fun! Over the past seventeen years I have learned much about pain and suffering as well as recovering and healing. I’d like to use my knowledge and experience to support your journey towards wholeness, peace, and love.
