About
I have been counseling for over 6 years at a college counseling center briefly and later at a community mental health center and I also have a lot of life experience. I went back to school at age 55 to pursue a life long dream of becoming a counselor.
I like to think of therapy as a way to have intelligent conversations in a safe environment, where you learn how to solve your own problems. I come from the person centered approach believing you are the expert in your life and let you lead the direction of therapy.
I can help you focus on your issues using Internal Family Systems, IFS, I have trained extensively in Trauma work using EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and TFCBT [for child trauma work]. I have co-faclitated a grief group. I have used expressive arts therapy, using therapeutic journal writing, dream work and drawing to help people access the creative solving parts of their brains; the part that can help you solve your emotional stumbling blocks. I teach the skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, [DBT] and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, [CBT] skills to help people with depression and anxiety move forward in their lives.
I have also spent time facilitating Substance Abuse groups, and believe group therapy is the best place to get assistance with substance abuse issues, and I will be happy to counsel with you as a supplement to your group work.
It is a privilege and an honor to be allowed to hear one’s stories and facilitate change. I hope you find the right counselor for yourself and if you choose to meet with me, I look forward to meeting you.
My preference is to video chat. I have limited time to respond to opening text messaging through the Find A Therapist platform and will do my best to respond to an original message, however you will get much better help by setting an appointment through my schedule where we can connect in real time, than to rely on the message platform. I provide appointments for my Find A Therapist Client on Thursday evening, Fridays and occasional Saturday mornings. Sometimes I have openings on Mondays and Tuesdays after 3:00 pm, however those openings might not always be available.
